Partners in Planning program
People tend to shy away from talking about death or end of life care. All too often these topics are neglected until, for thousands of Australians, it’s too late. In fact, a staggering 70% of Australians don’t document their health wishes at all – leaving the difficult decisions to family members or doctors.
That’s why the Partners in Planning team (through funding from COORDINARE) have been working hard throughout South Eastern NSW to reduce the stigma and educate people about end of life decisions.
Through an educational roadshow – presented in Yass, Crookwell, Batemans Bay, Goulburn, Bega, Cooma and Queanbeyan – Partners in Planning have worked to connect people with the resources and information they need to start end of life discussions with their families or trusted confidants.
The team have also been liaising with GPs, allied health staff, legal representatives, clergy and many other professionals across South Eastern NSW to encourage and support Australians to document their end of life wishes.
Through this extensive project, Partners in Planning hope that community members will take their health care into their own hands and plan for tomorrow, so they can live for today.
